HILLBILLY ELVIS: Y’all Shook Up!

Alt-country singer-songwriter Raechel Whitchurch, a former Parkes local, will pay tribute to Elvis’ country side with ‘HILLBILLY ELVIS: Y’all Shook Up!’. Following a successful debut show in 2018, Raechel decided to make Hillbilly Elvis an annual event. She’ll also be bringing back her incredible live band, The Bolo Boys, so you won’t find any backing tracks at this show!

Elvis was raised on country, gospel and blues music. He brought all of those influences with him when he stepped into Sun Studio to record his early music. His music had the soul of blues music and the twang of country, and because the term “rock ‘n’ roll” was still in its infancy, Elvis’ music was initially labelled as country. Throughout his life, Elvis loved playing, listening to and recording country music, even if his name became synonymous with rock ‘n’ roll.

This family-friendly event will feature some of Elvis’ biggest hits from the span of his career but every song will be played in a hillbilly country style, to celebrate a style of music that was crucial in bringing us the rock ‘n’ roll Elvis sound that we all know and love!

Raechel Whitchurch

Raechel Whitchurch grew up in an eclectic family of six who travelled to the most remote parts of Australia, lived in an old, green Millard caravan, and paid their bills by playing music at pubs on the weekends. Raechel, her parents and three younger siblings travelled from town to town, performing in a country family band that was slightly left of centre. Naturally, music is all she has known for as long as she remembers. Many years of touring and performing have earned Raechel the right to step onto a stage with a natural confidence that makes you immediately feel at ease. She shares stories of her life that are hilariously relatable, and in the next breath is able to sing a song that can break your heart in a matter of minutes. Her big personality, skilful songwriting, and sincerely raw voice, has given her the opportunity to perform with many incredible artists, such as Kasey Chambers, Lisa Mitchell and Ruby Boots. HILLBILLY ELVIS: Y'all Shook Up! showcases Raechel's ability to take a well-known song and make it her own, while maintaining the integrity of the original artist. Raechel and her family love Parkes and are proud supporters of the Parkes Elvis Festival (and have even dressed up for the parade on the odd occasion). She took up mandolin at the age of eight to help out in the family business. It wasn’t a hobby – it was a way to make a living. The fact that she fell in love with making music was just the cherry on top.
